zimbabwePosted by HorseRotorVator (Newton, United States) on 18 July 2007 in Miscellaneous. this was from the Sunday Dispatch show at madison square garden. It was the last of the three sold out shows. And it was absolutely amazing. And what a cause. Here's the most popular indie band there has ever been. They played their last show in Boston in 2004 to over 100,000 fans. They then went on to do solo work. Then they decide to do a reunion benifit concert for Zimbabwe and give 100% of the earnings to help out. These are guys that are in it for the love of people, fans, and music. Not the money and fame. It's rare to find bands like this. The show was emotional and an electric night for everyone there. "The economic crises in Zimbabwe is worsening at an alarming rate. At the beginning of 2007, Zimbabwe’s inflation rose to 1,281.1%, the highest in the world by far. Unemployment is over 85 %, poverty over 90 %, and foreign reserves are almost depleted. Over four million persons are in desperate need of food. One in four citizens are HIV positive. Coupled with severe malnutrition, thousands are dying every month. To do something as simple as buying a loaf of bread is near impossible for most zimbabwean families. Combined with a consistent lack of potable water, power, perpetual regional drought, over all environmental degradation and the recent displacement of hundreds of thousands desperately poor from urban areas, the country is on the brink of ruin." We are all humans in the same world. Remember that. Help!
